Del City High School

When raw talent is paired with a tremendous work ethic and passion for a sport, the result is Deontre Buttram. Buttram is what you call a natural at the sport of wrestling. His toughness and determination made him a state champion in only five years. 

“It’s been a journey of growth and improvement. I’ve learned so much from the sport and it has become a true passion of mine. Having my name etched in the history books means the world to me. It’s a testament to the hard work, sacrifices, and dedication I’ve put into my wrestling journey. It’s an honor to be recognized for my achievements and to leave a lasting legacy at my school,” said Buttram. 

This season will be discussed by current and future coaches at Del City High School because Buttram is the new blueprint. 

“This season was absolutely unforgettable! We worked so hard as a team, gave it our all in every practice, and the feeling of winning the state title was indescribable. It was a culmination of all our efforts, and it felt like a dream come true. The joy and pride I felt in that moment were beyond words. It’s a memory I’ll cherish forever,” said Buttram. 

You would be hard-pressed to find someone to better represent Del City High School or the sport of wrestling. 

“Being a student-athlete at DCHS is amazing. What I love most is the sense of camaraderie and the opportunity to represent my school in the sport I love. It’s a chance to push myself physically and mentally, and I enjoy the discipline and dedication it requires,” said Buttram. 

His teammates are more than classmates and wrestling partners, they are like family. 

“I absolutely love my teammates! We have formed a tight-knit bond through all the ups and downs of the season. They are like a second family to me. We support and motivate each other, and the friendships we’ve built will last a lifetime,” said Buttram.
