Del City’s Kaleb Blackwolf – Football Spotlight – Presented by Candace M. Cunningham, Shelter Insurance

Del City’s Kaleb Blackwolf

By Trina Walker

From an early age, Kaleb Blackwolf learned determination from his dad. My dad told me, “Live my life to the fullest because time waits for no man.” Playing football reinforced this lesson and taught him to never give up on the first try.

Kaleb is a junior at Del City High School. He plays free safety, running back and receiver. Kaleb loves representing his school as an athlete. It does not matter if other people believe in them. “That’s okay,” he says, “because we believe in ourselves.”

The teammate leaving the biggest impression is Charvis Kelly. “He helped me a lot when I first came to Del City and helped me to understand how to be a better leader.” The brotherhood created among his teammates is special to Kaleb.

When asked who inspires him, Kaleb says, “My daddy because he pushes me to better all the time.”

His dad signed him up to play football as a youth. “I was five years old when my dad put me in little league for 6U. My mom didn’t like it at first but she came around,” says Kaleb. His love for football started on that first team when they won the 6U championship and Kaleb had a 99-yard touchdown.

“I want to say thank you to my dad for putting me in football and showing me the game I love so much. I also want to thank my family for being supportive through all the ups and downs.”

Kaleb enjoys an unexpected pastime. Being an athlete in a physical sport like football, many are surprised to learn of his love for the game of chess. “I really like to play chess. A lot of people don’t believe me when I say that.”

He also enjoys time with his family. He recalls a trip in 2018 to Destin, Florida, shared with his grandparents. “It was nothing major, but I was able to go with my family and my Beba (grandma) and my Grandma and Pops.”
